
Redistricting starts with the Census, held every 10 years. The Federal Government makes the results available to the states. In Montana, an independent Districting and Apportionment Commission then redraws the U.S. Congressional and State Legislative House and Senate district boundaries, the goal being to equalize the number of residents each representative and senator represents.
After the Commission's maps are determined, counties redraw Precinct lines so they correspond to new House District boundaries and contain no more than 2,000 residents each. This was accomplished on March 29, 2023.
There are now 15 precincts in Lincoln County.
Ther Redistricting process created several changes for Lincoln County voters:
In order to have enough people in the 2 House Districts in Lincoln County, a portion of Flathead County - along Highway 2 through the Little Bitterroot Lake area were added to what will now be in the new House District 2 (HD2). [The Flathead Precincts are not on this Lincoln County Precincts map.]
Our 2 House Districts were significantly changed within the County as well. Troy City and Troy Rural Precincts will now be part of the new HD1, along with the previous HD2 precincts.
