The top priority for our Democratic caucus, the topic that everyone heard while campaigning is property tax relief. To that end, HB154 and HB155 providing long-term property tax relief have passed the House and been referred to committee in the Senate. These bills would cut rates, cut taxable value, and create a Housing Fairness Tax Credit to ensure long-term tax stability.
In a last-minute blast motion on Tuesday, Representative Kelly Kortum successfully resurrected HB311 to return rental application fees to unsuccessful applicants. Although many bills to provide more protections to renters in the increasingly competitive market died in committee, this is a huge victory that makes the hunt for housing more affordable.
