A unique training session will be offered by Laurie L Walsh M.Ed. October 21 in Libby/Troy (9am to 3pm) and October 22 in Eureka (11am to 5pm).
During my 20 yrs as a probation officer in the Phoenix area, I found that practicing the Motivational Interviewing way of talking to clients is a game changer! After retiring from Maricopa County, I used “MI” in my private practice for 8 years working with people suffering from addictions. For both populations, it is a modality of choice.

About Laurie:
From early on, I knew I wanted to help people and I enjoy working with people of all ages. I especially enjoy helping people who are interested in having a better understanding of themselves in my chosen field of substance abuse counselling. I have had my Independent License in Substance Abuse Counseling since 2004. I am a previous master trainer for Maricopa County in Motivational Interviewing and primarily employ this modality in my work with a strong emphasis in a 12-step model. Having worked with an offender population for 20 years (and in management in that field for the last 12 years through 2010) I am most familiar with working with populations who are resistant to change. I retired from my county position in 2010. After a year off I worked for a year in a residential setting. My current work is in taking "client referred clients" in private practice. At some future point I may consider working in residential treatment again as I enjoy facilitating groups most of all. I left my full time position in residential care, to travel. If I seek a position in a rehab facility, it will most likely be a part time position that will allow me the flexibility I have come to appreciate. I am enjoying SEMI-retirement, however, as I love this work and want to remain current and active in my profession.
